Belgium Campus and KU Leuven Strengthen Ties
Prof. Dr. Kris Willems, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Technology at the University of Leuven and Prof. Michaël Joris, International Cooperation Manager at the University College Limburg Leuven (UCLL) visited the Belgium Campus from 4 to 8 February 2015.
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen ties between Belgium Campus and the Faculty of Engineering Technology, KU Leuven. The relationship will see both organizations collaborating on the Belgium Campus’s Master of Innovation in ICT and designing the Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) projects that will be hosted in the Innovation Village.
Several meetings were held with various stakeholders from local and international government, and educational institutes to discuss the development and financing of the Innovation Village. Belgium Campus management and the visitors met with Mr. Imraan Patel, Deputy Director General for Socio-Economic Partnerships for the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Dr. Barend Taute from the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Meraka Institute, Mr. J Pampalis from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), Prof. Jannie Zaaiman, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Venda (Univen) and representatives of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Furthermore, there were meetings with H.E. Mr. Roeland van de Geer, Ambassador of the EU Delegation to South Africa, and Mr. Carmello Cocuzza, Head of the European Investment Bank.
At the Academic Opening Ceremony, Prof. Dr. Kris Willems officially announced to the Belgium Campus students, staff and guests the commitment by his faculty at the University of Leuven to support and cooperate in the development of the new Master Degree.
